Say hello to Thato Ndhlovu, a member of our data processing team based in South Africa. Thato predominantly works on LiDAR scan data, cleaning up sets, locations, large environments, vehicles and large props, and he’s also part of the render team.
CAS: What’s your name, where are you from, and where are you now?
Thato: My name is Thato Khensani Lungelo Ndhlovu – you can just call me Thato. I am from Johannesburg, eMansi Afrika South Africa.
What do you do at Clear Angle Studios?
e.g. I am a part of the data processing team where I currently serve as a remote 3D Artist. My job primarily involves processing LiDAR scan data brought in by our capture team. This means that I get to touch up & polish a lot of cool sets, environments, vehicles & props.
What do you like most about working here?
Our niche corner of the industry allows me to see it all from a very unique perspective where I have the luxury of ‘flexible discipline’. I get to taste the industry, see behind the veil & even get the 1st glimpse of a project all from the comfort of my home.
What’s the best project you’ve worked on?
1st is Loki Season 2, which was my 1st screen credit as far as I am aware & the sets were very cool. Tied for 2nd is every project where I recognised something I worked on. Alien, Barbie, Blue Beetle, Deadpool vs Wolverine, the list goes on…
What’s one piece of kit or a piece of software that makes your job better?
Scripts. The project/software specific coding & programming that we use really gets me through crunch time. Combining any skillset with a touch of automation & customisation gives us so much leverage. We have a very efficient pipeline that continues to evolve.
Give us a recommendation for something you like. (Anything, could be a film, a musician, a restaurant, a place to go on holiday)
The 100 Year-Old Man That Climbed Out The Window & Disappeared is a movie title that I never thought I would recommend – what a great film. If you like street food then you will love a kota. If you have a fancier palette then you will love Level7. A remote destination in the SA bushes is always a great escape.
All photos by Thato Ndhlovu. Thanks Thato!
